FPHS Senior Spotlight: Sarah Grace Hilderbrand

Fort Payne High School senior Sarah Grace Hilderbrand is preparing to take the next step in her academic journey with a clear vision for her future. After graduation, she plans to attend Northeast Alabama Community College, where she will complete her first two years of coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in business management.
During her time at Fort Payne High School, Hilderbrand has been actively involved in both the Culinary Arts and Health pathways, experiences that have helped shape her interests and skills. She credits much of her academic enjoyment to her dual enrollment classes with Mrs. Shugart, who she says made learning engaging and enjoyable rather than a chore.
In addition to strong academics, Hilderbrand has been deeply involved in extracurricular activities. She has participated in Diamond Dolls, Leo Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Family, Career and Community Leaders of Alabama (FCCLA), and the Culinary Competition Team. Through these organizations, she developed valuable leadership and teamwork skills.
“The Culinary Competition Team taught me about leadership, teamwork, and perseverance,” Hilderbrand said. “I had to work with others under pressure, help guide the group, and keep trying even when things didn’t go perfectly.”
Her academic achievements reflect her dedication, as she was named a Junior Marshal and maintained a position in the top 10 of her class as a senior—an accomplishment she is especially proud of.
Hilderbrand also expressed gratitude for the educators who have influenced her journey, particularly Mrs. Everett. “She has been one of the most understanding and caring teachers I have met,” Hilderbrand said. “She made me feel important and seen without judgment.”
Throughout high school, Hilderbrand says she gained important life skills such as responsibility, time management, and effective communication. Through her classes, projects, and extracurricular activities, she learned how to stay organized, meet deadlines, and work effectively with others, all while growing more independent and confident in her abilities. She credits Fort Payne City Schools with helping prepare her for both the challenges and opportunities ahead.
One of the most valuable lessons she learned was how to manage stress in a healthy way.
“With assignments, tests, and activities, I learned how to stay calm, prioritize my work, and take things one step at a time,” she said. “High school taught me that stress is normal, but handling it in a healthy way helps me stay focused and do my best. That’s something I’ll carry with me into college, work, and other challenges.”
Looking ahead, Hilderbrand hopes to build a career in business management or eventually own her own business. No matter where her path leads, she is committed to making a positive impact in her career and community.
“I want to be someone people can rely on,” she said. “I hope to make a positive impact by helping others and using the skills and lessons I’ve learned to support my community. I want to work hard and set a good example for others. By being respectful, responsible, and dedicated, I hope to contribute in a way that makes a difference in people’s lives.”
As she prepares to graduate, Hilderbrand offers simple but meaningful advice to younger students: always be yourself, focus on your career goals, participate in clubs, and always try the best you can.
With clear goals and a strong sense of direction, Sarah Grace Hilderbrand is ready to take the next step toward her future.
